England did not select the prickly basketball player Joffra Archer in the preliminary squad of the 15 World Cup, but he was appointed to warm-up games against Pakistan and Ireland.
Archer, 24, born in Barbados, qualified to play for England in March after changing the rules for staying.
He could still make the World Cup team if he impresses in warm-up games, because the changes can be made by May 23.
England play Ireland on May 3 before a series of five games against Pakistan.
"The selection panel was impressed by the performance of Joffre Archer in the domestic and franciscack cricket," said national selector Ed Smith.
"He is a very talented and exciting cricket."
England's Chris Vokis said on Tuesday that "it would not be fair moral" to choose Archer for the World Cup, hosted by England and Wales, which starts on May 30th.
Archer of Sussex has an English father and a British passport. He qualified to play for England on March 17th, thanks to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) adopting new rules for staying on January 1st.
He has only played 14 one-day matches in his career, but impressed in Cricket Twenty20.
Archer, one of the most valuable limited players in the world, estimated his 90-meter boxing game, athletic playing and aggressive extraction, is currently playing for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), along with English internationals Jos Butler and Ben Stokes.
The ECB said players "selected in the team who are currently playing in the IPL will return to England on or before April 26th."
The preliminary composition of the World Cup is unchanged from the winter one-day series against the West Indies.
