Sophia Floersch, 17, will undergo an operation after a spectacular plane crash in Formula 3 at the Macau Grand Prix on Sunday.
The film material showed that Floersch seems to chase Japanese driver Sho Tsuboi, while flying at high speed on the narrow right corner on the fourth lap. Floersch's car crossed the fence, hit the structure on the circumference, and fell to the ground with security officials immediately on the scene. The incident caused an immediate red flag and a delay of more than an hour before restarting the race.
Another driver, Guan Yu Zhou, was following Floersch and said the yellow warning lights were visible on the straight line before the collision, which he claims was a "mistake" that could cause Floersch's early braking.
"It was such a terrible moment," said Zhou for Autosport.com.
"Later (the previous right turn), I saw yellow, but I think it was just a mistake by the organizers station.
"Sophia was very close to Jehan, so when Jehan braked early, she did not have time to react.
– Jehan hit the right rear, who turned her straight into Lisboa and flew to the second car.
"I just hope everything is fine with her."
Floersch later wrote that she was on the road to recovery.
"I just wanted to let everyone know that everything is fine, but tomorrow morning (Monday) I will go to Surgery … Update soon."
Floersch has a spine fracture, according to a medical report from her team, Van Amersfoort Racing from the Netherlands.
"The whole world has seen what happened and we can only thank God that Sophia Floersch escaped with relatively light injuries," wrote van Amersfoort Racing. "Our thoughts are also directed to other people involved in the case and we wish them a quick recovery".
In a statement published in social media, the FIA stated that "the driver (Floersch) is conscious and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation." He added that Tsuboi and "two media members and one marshal were also transferred to a local hospital in a conscious state for further evaluation." The media reported that Tsuboi suffers from lumbar pain.
