Cervical cancer is more aggressive when there is no human papillomavirus

On Cervical cancer negative for human papillomavirus (HPV) is rare, but more aggressiveIt is usually diagnosed in more advanced stages and is associated with multiple metastases and less survival. These are the conclusions of a study led by ISGlobal, a center promoted by "La Caixa", Clinical Hospitals and the University of Barcelona.

In this study, a team led by Zhuem Horde, a pathologist and researcher at ISGlobal, analyzed tumors of 214 women diagnosed with cervical cancer and admitted to the Clínic de Barcelona hospital between 2012 and 2015.

The new job confirms that negative tumors for HPV constitute a more aggressive type of cancer with a worse prognosis, which should be considered for the clinical treatment of patients
