How much does it plan to expand your nearest airport? | News from the UK



Airports across the UK have revealed how much they plan to expand over the next two decades.

Doncaster Sheffield plans to increase passenger numbers by 490% by 2037, while Heathrow wants to increase its capacity by 50 million – to 130 million passengers a year, according to Sky News airport master plans.

Aberdeen

The airport plans to increase its passenger numbers by 66% in the next two decades. It had just over three million passengers in 2018 and is aiming for more than five million by 2040.

The airport plans to increase the number of passengers from 2.51 million in 2018 to 3.2 million by 2030 – a 28% increase, according to data from environmental group Watch Airport.

Belfast International

The airport master plan includes a target of 10.4 million passengers in 2030, a 66% increase to 6.27 million passengers in 2018.

Birmingham

The airport wants to expand to accommodate 18 million passengers annually by 2033. That would represent a 45% increase for the 12.46 million passengers traveling in 2018.

Bristol

The airport wants to increase passenger numbers by 38% to 12 million by 2025. There were 8.7 million passengers in 2018.

Cardiff

The airport aims to increase the number of passengers by 90% to three million, though it did not say which year it will reach. There were 1.58 million passengers in 2018.

City

According to the draft plan for the London airport, he wants to boost passenger numbers by 128% by 2035. There were 4.82 million passengers in 2018, but wants this to rise to 11 million.

Doncaster Sheffield

The airport plans to expand its passenger numbers by a massive 490% over the next two decades. There were 1.22 million passengers in 2018 and hopes to have 7.2 million by 2037.

East Midlands

The second busiest airport in the UK aims to expand passenger numbers to 70 million by 2032-33. This would represent a 52% increase for the 49.09 million passengers it had in 2018.

Glasgow

The airport plans to increase passenger numbers by 98%, from 9.66 million in 2018 to 19.17 million by 2040.

Heathrow

The UK's largest airport aims to increase its annual passenger numbers to 130m – up 62% to 80.12m in 2018. The additional capacity will come from the construction of a third runway.

Leeds Bradford

The airport wants seven million passengers annually by 2030 – an increase of 73% to 4.04 million passengers in 2018.

Liverpool

The airport wants to increase passenger numbers by 55% in the next decade. It had 5.05 million passengers in 2018 and aims to 7.8 million by 2030 and 11 million by 2050.

Luton

The airport aims to increase its capacity to 32 million passengers annually – a 50% increase to 16.77 million passengers in 2018.

Manchester

The airport's master plan is to have 50 million passengers in 2030, an increase of 77% to 28.29 million passengers in 2018.

Newcastle

The airport had 5.33 million passengers in 2018, but wants it to grow to 9.4 million annually by 2035 – an increase of 76%.

Southampton

The airport plans to increase passenger numbers by 151% by 2037. It had 1.99 million passengers in 2018, but aims at five million a year.

Southend

The airport aims to increase passenger numbers by 238% by 2022 to five million passengers annually. There were 1.48 million passengers in 2018.

Stansted

The airport wants to expand to accommodate 43 million passengers a year, which is 53% more than the 28 million passengers in 2018. However, the plan of the airport, which was agreed by the local government, is being considered.
