As winter approaches, dangerous bells are ringing for the flu caused by flu viruses. As the incidence of coronavirus continues to rise, many of us are concerned that it is combined with the flu that occurs with the change of seasons. Specialist for internal diseases prof. Dr. Osman Erk talked about ways to avoid the flu in this risky process …
WHAT ARE THE RISK?
Influenza, a viral disease transmitted by coughing and sneezing; It occurs with complaints such as fever, high fever, dry cough, runny nose, muscle, joint, ear and sore throat, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. It can turn into pneumonia, especially in the elderly. People over the age of 65, those with chronic illnesses (COPD, asthma, heart failure, kidney, cancer, cancer treatment and patients with diabetes), children and pregnant women are at risk for the flu.
WHAT TO CONSIDER?
The flu usually starts in November and December, and is more common in January, February and March. The most important way to prevent this disease is through strong immunity. People who have a balanced and adequate diet, whose immunity is supported, can not easily contract viral infections such as flu and colds. Even if caught, it will get over it faster. Covid-19 measures (mask, hygiene and distance) also provide protection against the flu. Avoiding crowds during the flu season offers great health benefits.
Eat fresh vegetables and fruits
Consuming fresh vegetables and fruits provides protection against the flu. Consumption of yellow, green, red and orange fruits and vegetables maintains the immune system at the highest level. Vegetables and fruits such as carrots, oranges, tangerines, tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, parsley, oranges, cabbage, grapefruit support immunity and protect against the flu. Also, sleep and regular sports boost immunity.
IS THE VACCINE PROTECTIVE?
It should not be forgotten that there is no 100 percent protection in the flu vaccine, as in any vaccine. Some experts do not recommend the flu vaccine. However, hundreds of people die each year from pneumonia, inflammation of the brain, meningitis, inflammation of the heart muscle and inflammation of the middle ear caused by the flu virus. Explaining that the vaccine is unnecessary while the flu is such a disease that affects the whole world is an example of irresponsibility and ignorance.
