It is dark. It's horrifying. And it is very exciting. The mysterious adventure "Call of Cthulhu" now arouses interest among fans of horror, because the long-awaited mysterious role-playing game on PS4 and Xbox One is one of the most consistent and atmospheric games of the year. The release date of October 30 was certainly not a coincidence: Halloween has caused a terrible puzzle for a comfortable shower.

The game is based on the grim world of the American cult author H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937). His stories tell about the dismal deities lurking in the depths of the cosmos or in the depths of the ocean until one day they attack humanity. The most famous collection of Lovecraft's history is "The Call of Cthulhu"
Music, movies, games
This tale of an octopus-like demon that sleeps at the bottom of the ocean and haunts people in their dreams has established the myth of Cthulhu. In Cthulhu's Call, the police arrest members of the cult who believe in the Great Ancients. They worship the dark god and worship the statue with his likeness.
Time and again, "The Call of Cthulhu" appears in pop culture, for example in a role-playing game from 1984 or as a song title with the American band Metallica. The new video game, which captivates the player in the grim Lovecraft world, is not a real implementation now, but a very effective adaptation. Content: Detective Edward Pierce fought in World War I and was traumatized ever since. He suffers from nightmares and can deal with everyday life with alcohol and tablets.
He is also harassed by the visions of the city in the ocean. He is attracted by monstrous tentacles to a godless place. But then Pierce gets a job to enlighten the mysterious death of a wealthy family on Darkwater. The only clue he uses is a picture painted by the mentally unstable mother of the family. It shows a disfigured person growing out of his body tentacles.
Horror game master
The game is similar to previous implementations of Lovecraft games. For example, the PC title "Alone in the Dark" from 1992 was unforgettable, which at that time was one of the first games that used cinema 3D settings. Or a year later, visually perhaps even a colorful comic adventure "Call of Cthulhu: Shadow of the Comet", which remained very close to the content of the original Lovecraft.
Even the science-fiction classic "Mass Effect" (2007) contains many horrors. The idea of an old race living in space, brutal and unyielding in a different form of life, is a pure Lovecraft. The reaper is nothing but great old deities from the work of an American author.
Do not forget about the 2005 role-playing game "Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth". The mysterious adventure that was adopted at the time caused a small scandal, because the main character in the best style of Lovecraft loses his mind – and in the middle even commits suicide in the game.
The current "Call of Cthulhu" certainly does not have to be ashamed in this great game, even if parts of the shooters are rather redundant and the puzzles are not particularly difficult. But the game makes up for it with a fascinating atmosphere that provides the best of terrifying pleasures even after Halloween.
