All players invest in expanding the network coverage through which they can provide very high speeds.
While optical fibers were a privilege of large residential houses in major cities more than a decade ago, this is no longer the case. Individual operators compete to build a new network even in small towns or villages.
Providers are trying to get to new locations before the competition and they mostly only compete with the older DSL network of Slovak Telecom or "Internet over the air" over fixed LTE or older technologies. However, in large cities, customers sometimes have a choice of several optical links – from large players and regional providers who often want to lure customers to lower prices.
Once operators build optics, they also want to offer their customers television services, and sometimes even a fixed line. Telecom and Orange combine fixed and mobile services. But always consider whether you buy everything from one supplier – it may not always bring you a better price or better parameters.
No optics like optics
Some operators also refer to other products as "optics". A very controversial technology is the coaxial optical network, which is operated by, for example, UPC. According to the service provider, 95% of it is fiber optic cable, but not a pure optical product. But the client comes with coaxial cable, not optics.
Telecom has started calling the older VDSL technology "home optics" but will not warn you that it can provide service to your home over decades of cable. The speeds through such a connection are lower, the response is higher, and the cost of optical programs is also lower.

With optics, operators can offer very high speeds. However, sometimes other technologies are "changing" for optics as well.
Other operators also use several technologies and offer different speeds at different locations.
The safest thing to do is to check the exact parameters of your carrier's website. At the same time, ask if there is a smaller regional operator that offers optics at your location and compare the offer. But beware of alternative technologies – for example, microwave bandwidth, which is unlikely to achieve optical parameters. Not just speed, but stability and response. Do not rely on the State Comparator website, data is not updated.
Programs at three price levels
We have separated the Internet packages from the operators at three price levels. These are programs for 10, 15 and 20 euros. However, not all operators can fit into these levels, sometimes there are packages that are one or two euros cheaper or more expensive.
We already mention Telecom new optical speeds on the Internet. New customers will receive a faster program from September 26. We remind you that Digi Slovakia is the only optics player per month SUP after releasing 300 GB – your speed will then go down five times.
When we look at the lowest price level, we find that UPC has won, offering speeds several times higher than its competitors. DIS data has the highest setting, but not all optical locations:
At mid-price levels, UPC is currently winning again, although the fee is slightly higher – 16 EUR per month. DSi Data and Orange are in close suspension. DSi Data and Satro offer the largest set-up of some locations:
In the most expensive price range of 20 euros, Antik is in the lead, offering only 70 Mbit / s speed, but paying a one-time fee of 19.92 Euro, you get a program of 1/1 Gbit / s. 1/1 Gbit / s offers almost the entire network – before ordering, you need to make sure this speed is available at your address.
In addition, you will automatically receive a TV with more than 150 channels and a fixed line for free. Marquis and Jay are charged 2 euros per month. After the acceleration, Telecom will be number two at this price level:
Beware of taxis and rental equipment
Before ordering the service, also check the fees for setting up an optical connection and a monthly rent for a Wi-Fi router and other necessary devices. In fact, they can increase the average service price:
- Telecom – Choose standard and premium Wi-Fi router for 0.49 and 1.99 € per month. Self-installation of the service is free, installation by a technician costs 19.99 euros.
- orange – two euros per month for the necessary equipment and installation for 19,9 €.
- UPC – Wi-Fi router is for 1.9 euros per month, activating the service for 3 euros.
- Swan – setup fee is one euro, router fee is 19.9 or 49.9 euro. The more expensive device also supports the highest offered speed of 1 Gbit / s.
- Slovanet – activation is for 20 euros, self-installation for one euro. The monthly rent for the Wi-Fi router is 1, 2 or 2.5 euros per device.
- Digi Slovakia – the service is free to activate with a mandatory rent of 1.5 euros per month
- Satro – No setup fee, monthly rent for Wi-Fi router is 1.5 € per month
- Antic – activation fee is EUR 0.03. If you change the program to 1 Gb / s, you pay a one-time 19.99 euros. In some locations, the switch is currently free. The Internet only recommends a proper router (70 Mbit and 1 Gbit / program). You can buy it from the operator for 39 euros.
- DSI data – introduction of the service costs 35 euros, costs 1 euro when switching from the competition. Rental of the router costs 0.5 to 1.5 euros per month according to technology.
- RadioLan – service charge between 49 and 69 euros. Wi-Fi router included.
Several players also have gigabits
Only Antik could receive up to 20 euros with a gigabit Internet program. But other market players are also selling such a program. Telecom for 1 / 0.1 Gbit requires 25 euros per month. orange has the same price, but the update is slightly higher – 1 / 0.15 Gbit / s.
on Swane costs 1 / 0.1 Gbit / s for 24.99 euros per month. on UPC is an Internet service at the rate of 1 / 0.05 Gbit / s for 24 euros per month.
Satro, Slovanet, DSi Data and RadioLan still do not provide gigabit software.
Do you need hundreds of megabits?
Think about your Internet needs before ordering an Internet program. Do you really need hundreds of megabits? The vast majority of users will need a program at 50 Mbit / s or even less. With this speed, many family members can browse the Internet comfortably enough to watch Internet TV, and another member can view content on HBO Go or Netflix.

Think about the fast optical program you need. Many customers do not need hundreds of megabits.
Even if you need to watch ultra HD content online or download various content online. Users with intense data usually have specific needs and are not the same as most people.
So instead of an expensive program, choose a lower speed. If you don't like it, operators will usually allow you to upgrade to a higher-cost program, even when you're dedicated, but that's not the case.
