In 15 cases they have confirmed disease

The first cases of measles were discovered on March 2 by hospital staff in the southern Hungarian city of Maki.

Budapest, March 17 (Reuters) – The number of people in Hungary likely to get measles has jumped to 52, of whom 15 have already been confirmed by doctors, the National Epidemiological Center (OEC) announced today.

According to the MTI, chief epidemiologist Beatrix Orozi in Budapest said 391 people had been vaccinated with measles, mumps and rubella vaccines in the Fongrad district.

The first cases of measles were discovered on March 2 by hospital staff in the southern Hungarian city of Maki.

The infection is likely to spread from neighboring Romania, where over 3,000 people were affected by measles last year. 16 people died from health complications caused by the disease in the given period. According to the OEC, the epidemiological development in Hungary is affected by the situation in the north of Transylvania.
