WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump urged Americans on Friday to protect themselves against measles vaccine, as the number of cases of ever eradicated disease has hit the highest levels in the United States since 2000.
An increased epidemic in country pockets has sparked more public health research in order to limit exposure to measles, including quarantine at two universities in California.
"They have to get their shots," Trump told reporters at the White House.
Almost 700 cases have been confirmed by federal health authorities so far this year in a revival that has so far been concentrated in several countries, including New York, Washington, Michigan, New Jersey, and California.
On Tuesday, public health officials in the county ordered dozens of people to be quarantined at the University of California, Los Angeles (Los Angeles) and California State University, Cal State LA, after exposure to the virus on April 11.
