SINGAPORE: In his message for National Day on Thursday (August 8th), Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long spoke of the Jewel Changi Airport as "just one of the many things we are doing to make our city public".

Other projects include Terminal 5 at Changi Airports, Tuas Megaport, Jururong Lake District, Paia Lebar Air Base Reconstruction and Great Southern Water.

"All of these projects will keep us busy and create new opportunities for Singaporeans for decades to come," Mr Lee said.

Unlike regular terminals, the super big T5 could be a game changer for Singapore's competitiveness as an air hub.

The terminal is being built on 1,000 hectares of land, equivalent to the size of the new Tampini city or 2.5 Marina Bay. As a scale, the rest of the airport covers 1,350 ha of land.

When completed by 2030, the terminal will increase Yangi's annual capacity by 50 million passengers initially and up to 70 million if needed, meaning that Yangi could potentially serve 150 million passengers a year, compared to its current capacity of 82 million. .

The T5 will also use renewable energy and will have technologies such as automatic check kiosks and bag drops.

The project, expected to cost tens of billions, will have a station serving Thomson-East Coast (TEL).

The future of Singapore's maritime sector may lie individually in the mega-port of Tuas, which is set to open in stages starting in 2021 and be twice the size of the new city of Ang Mo Kio.

The port has the capacity to carry 65 million equivalent units of twenty meters (TEU) cargo – more than the 50 million TEU that existing terminals can maintain annually.

In an interview with JNA Insider, PSA International Group CEO Tan Jong Meng said that with the innovations, the government envisions a future that can support both Tuas as a port and a curtain for Tuas so future producers and trade, industry and logistics players can benefit from it all.
