Califa Sal, a candidate signed by the Constitutional Council, despite appealing his representatives to confirm his candidacy for the presidency of Senegal on February 24, 2019, has been coveted in recent days by opposition candidates.
Apart from Isa Sal of the Unity and Rally Party (PUR), Idrisa Shek, Ouman Sonko and McDice Niang, they visited the former mayor of Dakar in the Rebese prison; where he lives for two years as part of an embezzlement of public funds in the amount of 1.8 billion francs franc from the cash advance of the mayor of Dakar.
All these candidates vowed to release him after choosing the evening of February 24, 2019. But, according to the newspaper Les Echos, quoting a source close, Mr Sal did not promise anything. "All mayors have told them that they will first consult with the base, because he is not alone in making decisions," a close friend finds.
This race towards him, in order to get his support, puts Caliph Sal in a dilemma. All in all, his position will be presented in the coming days.
