Dozens of artists – including Ina, Delia, Smiley or Carlan’s Dreams – are calling on the government to be included in the state aid scheme for the cultural sector – Essential

More than 90 Romanian artists, including Delia, Antonia, Carlan’s Dreams, Connect-R, Horia Brenciu, Ina, Loredana, Paula Seling, Smiley, Stefan Benicic, Vama and Voltaire, addressed an open letter to Prime Minister Ludovic Orban calling for artists to be included in the state aid scheme to support the cultural sector.

In an open letter addressed to both Deputy Prime Minister Raluca Turkan and Culture Minister Bogdan Georgiou, posted on Facebook, the artists stressed that “the existence of the cultural sector does not depend only on the organizers of the events, but especially on the artists,” Agerpress was quoted as saying.

“I learned that the Ministry of Culture, with the support of the Romanian government, has developed a draft state aid scheme to support the cultural sector, whose activities have been halted to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. But I was surprised to find that the artists were not included in the government’s plan. Reading the five measures covered by the state aid scheme, I noticed that they are addressed only to cultural operators, organizers of festivals and cultural events, organizers of music events and stand-up comedy, ticket sellers, booksellers and publishers, artists who are not involved in any of these measures. We believe that the existence of the cultural sector depends not only on the organizers of the events, but especially on the artists. “Include this entity in the state aid scheme as an eligible beneficiary of the amounts intended for assistance to the cultural sector,” the open letter reads.
