The smart watch market is reviving form, with 2019 sales rising steadily. In the third quarter (July – September), more than 14.2 million smartphones were sold, an increase of 42% compared to the same period last year.
The first 3 consist of:
- Apple – 6.8 million units, + 51% compared to the third quarter of 2018;
- Samsung – 1.9 million units, + 73% compared to the third quarter of 2018;
- Fitbit (Google) – 1.6 million units, + 7% compared to the third quarter of 2018.
Note that Apple does not have much of a rival in this niche, at the moment the bitten apple has a market share of 47.9%. I hope that Google's acquisition of Fitbit will keep this segment a little more lively, especially since Fitbit has lost ground in the last quarter of a century to Samsung.
