"The work is pornographic, but the show does not do it," says Maria Joao Abre for the new work – Culture

Maria João Abreu admits she has accepted to make "Budoar-7 dialogue-libertines" by Martínd Pedroso, even before reading the text and without knowing the work of Marquis de Sade in which the show is inspired (the scandalous "philosophy of alcohol" published in 1795).

"I was in a panic when I began to read the text, but I immediately rested on the first rehearsals with Marty," recalls the actress. "I realized that the director should decide on a smarter and less obvious approach. Yes, because the work is pornographic, but the show is not," he says.

"Budoire," which debuted tonight at Teatro da Trindade in Lisbon after a brief visit to the Campo Alegre Theater in Porto, is for people over 18 years old and is said to be "a provocation" in theatrical form.

"Sad wrote" The Philosophy in Alcohol "to shock the Puritans, to protest against the corsets of religion. Notice that this is a man who already advocated gender equality in the eighteenth century …" recalls the actress who thinks the show is for each type of audience.

"Obviously, the one who is a worship fan of Sad will love him." Anyone who does not know will bother him – but this is a function of the theater, "concludes Maria João Abreu.
