SIC News | Works on the 25 de Abril bridge will start "soon", says the minister


"The start of work on April 25 will start soon, perhaps even before the end of this year," said Pedro Marques at a joint hearing with three parliamentary committees for discussion in the specialty of the state budget proposal for 2019 (OE2019).

"We are now waiting for a visa from the Court of Auditors", he continued, adding that after this 25th bridge de Abril could "enter the construction phase".

On September 20, Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced that works on Ponte 25 de Abril were awarded for a 12.6 million euro consortium made up of Somague, Sociedade de Montagens Metalomecânicas and STAP-Reparação, Consolidação e Modificación structures.

"The planned interventions concern the metal elements of the suspended bridge and pre-prestressed reinforced concrete elements of the northern access viaduct," said the then subject of works on the bridge connecting the two banks of the Tagus River from Almada to Lisbon.

Initially, the IP estimated that the work would be budgeted at 18 million euros, but the winning consortium – of six – made a lower proposal totaling 12.6 million euros.

On September 12, also in the parliament, Minister Pedro Marques estimated that the contract began "this year.
