KORONADAL CITY (MindaNews / 16 Nov) – The city authorities plan to install more traffic lights at the main intersections of the streets in order to remedy the deteriorating traffic problem in the city.
The mayor of the city, Peter Miguel, said research is underway to install additional traffic lights in the main commercial zone of the city and other areas where vehicle jams occur, especially during rush hour.
The mayor has inaugurated the inauguration and formal incorporation of the city's first traffic lights on the national motorway intersections with Posadas and Arellano.
"This is just the beginning, we will be displaying (more) traffic lights throughout the city," Miguel said.
The city government presented a project worth 16 million pounds after several weeks of tests carried out by Trion Electronics.
The lights were installed in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways – South Cotabato Engineering District and Land Transportation Office-Region 12.
Zales Gayosa, the project engineer, said the traffic lights would work from 5:00 to 21:00. daily.
He said he was equipped with sensors and an automated sequential system to control motion without human intervention.
"It has a modular system, and its order adjusts automatically depending on the number of vehicles, e.g. at rush hour" – he said.
Edgardo Tabago, head of the municipal traffic office, said he encountered problems with drivers who were not familiar with the system during his first launch on Thursday.
He said that their guards had bombed the rapists, mostly tricycles, and issued appropriate instructions on the operation of the lights.
"We give our drivers some time to familiarize themselves with the system, but then we will impose the necessary penalties on those who break the rules," he said. (MindaNews)
