Dramatic footage from the Glendoy crash site shows a bus hanging unsafe off the road after breaking through a phthong tree.
The bus crashed on Riddell Rd and happened a few meters from the house, said the occupant of the home, who did not want to be named.
The resident of Glendale described the sound of the accident that “just continued”.
He says it is a slippery angle and has previously seen an accident there.
He first thought that a vehicle had crashed into parked cars.
When he opened the front door and saw the bus sitting about six meters from his house, he entered “work mode”.
“The first thing I saw were a few wires and they were working to make sure they were not electric. I could see that they were fibers. There is still gasoline popping from the bottom of it,” he said.
“I knocked on the window and made sure the driver was well. He was in a state of shock, quite upset,” he said.
“The other passenger was an elderly gentleman who had a chin rash. “It was probably worth about four or five threads.”
Business reporter and witness for the N Herald, Janein Farrell, said the bus driver was in shock after moving off the road in Glendow.
“Phutukawa was demolished,” she said.
“The windshield [of the bus] was smashed. “
The bus was running through the fiber lines and there was “a lot of oil” on the road.
Farre said the driver was taken to hospital and an elderly passenger sitting in the back of the bus suffered a cut.
Three St. John’s vehicles were present at the scene in Glendy and transported the two patients to hospital in moderate condition.
A police spokesman said they were called to the scene near the Glover Road intersection at 6.55pm where the passenger was being treated for minor injuries.
New Zealand fire and emergencies were also present at the scene.
