Discount – "What services for electronic press in the light of social change?", was the topic of the National Forum of electronic press in Morocco organized on Friday in Rabat, at the Higher Institute of Information and Communication, by the Ministry of Culture and Communication.
The forum was devoted in particular to the speeches of culture and communication ministers, Mohamed Laaraj, justice, Mohamed Aujjar and Delegate Minister responsible for relations with Parliament and civil society, spokesman for the government, Mustafa El Khalfi, and two presentations on the legal framework of electronic press in Morocco, made by researcher Ali Karimiego and the provisions of the Press and Publishing Code, developed by the lawyer and student Abdelaziz Nouidi.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, Mr Laaraj noted that the significant development of electronic press in Morocco over the past six years embodies the changes experienced by the media sector due to technological advances and a democratic structure that promotes the freedom of opinion and expression.
Mr Laaraj also reviewed statistics on the number of e-newspapers and those that were in line with the provisions of Law 88-13 on press and publishing.
Mr Aujjar, for his part, stressed the need to look for the optimal economic model that could favor the emergence and improvement of the electronic press, which, although it counts with an undeniable success in record time, raises the question of how to put the sector at the service of the public and democratic life.
In this regard, he said that electronic media opened wide horizons in the field of popularizing digital culture and the emergence of social networks; dynamics, which also allowed for a dizzying increase in the number of Internet users.
Mr Aujjar focused on the legal framework of the press, while differentiating it from the blog.
The minister also proposed the development of strategies and practical arrangements enabling the use of electronic press in accordance with the principles of ethics. According to him, the challenge is to implement self-regulatory mechanisms and goals for training and lifelong learning.
For his part, Mr El Khalfi pointed out that investing in online press is a lever for democratic progress and development.
He focused on the successful evolution of the electronic press in the Kingdom, mainly thanks to the undeniable contributions of professionals.
