Morocco: commissioning of roof mapping of buildings adapted for solar installations

Developed by the Solar and New Energy Research Institute (IRESEN) and the Green Energy Park Benguerira, in cooperation with the Geological Science Laboratory of the Faculty of Sciences Ain Chock (Casablanca University Hassan II) and the Urban Planning Agency Kelaa des Sraghna, this project, the first of its kind at the national level and continental, provides information on the real potential of photovoltaics, in particular for low voltage as well as residential and industrial sectors.

According to the IRESEN statement, this service will be available to the general public as an internet application (http://cadastresolaire.iresen.org/). According to the Institute, it will be available from Monday.

A solar catastrophe is a cartography of the roofs of buildings potentially adapted for photovoltaic installations. This innovation based on the geographic information system (GIS) is an interactive tool representing the photovoltaic potential, calculated on the basis of algorithms, to simulate the average annual irradiation (KWh / m² / year) of urban and rural roofs.

This algorithm takes into account a number of factors, including the geographical location, elevation of the research area, slope and orientation of the terrain, as well as the effect of buildings and terrain shading.

IRESEN is a research institute established in 2011 by the Ministry of Energy, Mining, Water and Environment and several key players in the energy sector in Morocco to support the national energy strategy by supporting applied research and development in the field of solar and new energy.
