WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States suffered its second consecutive World Cup defeat here on Sunday, marking the worst finish in their history.
The US team lost its Serbian counterpart 94-89 to fifth to eighth.
The loss came just 24 hours after America lost to France in the quarterfinals.
The US team wrapped up its campaign Saturday with a meeting with Poland or the Czech Republic to decide whether to finish seventh or eighth.
The worst US team's previous World Cup finish was third in 2002.
