Every second adult patient does not know that he has diabetes,

Every other adult patient does not know that he has diabetes, said the head of the Latvian Diabetes Federation (LDF), endocrinologist Indra Štelmane.

Medicae noticed that there are over 90,000 people with diabetes in Latvia, and that this disease affects a large number of families. What's more, diabetic diabetes causes changes not only for the patient, but also for his relatives every day, bringing many new challenges.

According to Schlemm, for this reason the theme of World Diabetes Day this year is "Diabetes and family". The LDF president said that this year the federation wants to underline the key role of the family in the treatment of diabetes, care and prevention.

"We encourage everyone to check their health regularly and determine the risk of diabetes and encourage family members to test," said Stelmane.

Celebrating the World Diabetes Day, LDF will invite people to inform the event at the Root Pavilion at the Central Market in Riga at 3, 3, 3 k-3 Centrāltirgus Street, from 14:00 to 17 November next week.

During the event you will be able to consult with experts to establish your cholesterol free and receive coupons for free sugar control.

The event will also include an endocrinologist and dietician in the field of prophylaxis and treatment of diabetes, healthy nutrition and physical activity.

In turn, the Latvian Association of Diabetes for Children and Youth will organize the event "Discovering diabetes – save life!", Which will take place on November 17 on the market of Kalnciems, Kalnciema iela 35, Riga, from 10:00 to 16:00. During this time, specialized nutrition consultations, natural tasting of sweeteners and creative retroreflective workshops.

As a representative of the Latvian Diabetes Center, Marta Lagzdiņa announced that in order to bring more public attention to the spread of diabetes in Latvia and raise awareness among people, the society will launch a social campaign "Stronger for diabetes" on November 14.

It was designed as a social experiment in which three personally known persons – Kristīne Garkálava, Magnuss Eriņš and Edgars Bāliņš – will try to "live and join forces" with diabetes as a musician, actor of the improvised theater Nauris Brikmanis.

According to Lagzndin, the experiment participants will be able to survive, and thanks to the various tasks and tests of "enjoying your skin", the daily life of patients with diabetes, including situations in which diabetes is adjacent, makes step by step, makes an impression when at least, significantly hindering any human activity and behavior, and sometimes even creating inaccuracies, but also health and life-threatening moments.

The campaign will start on November 14 at 11.00 at the Deep Communication Office of the Communication Agency. The event will include statistics on the prevalence of diabetes in Latvia and provide practical advice to diabetics and peers, as well as the experience of patients with diabetes and describe the social experiment.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2001, 29,492 people suffered from diabetes in Latvia, while in 2017, they were diagnosed in 91 571 people.
