There are 463 million adults in the world living with diabetes and it is estimated that by 2045 this "pandemic" will affect 700 million people, with growth of over 50 percent; Compared to two years ago, there were nearly 40 million more sick people and predictions of a future worsening. These figures are contained in the ninth edition of IDC (International Diabetes Federation) published by Atlas on World Diabetes Day celebrated on November 14 and discussed during the presentation of Milan's foot in the "Heart of Diabetes" campaign, created for raising awareness of the importance of glycemic control, weight gain and all other risk factors contributing to the development of complications, especially cardiovascular.
