Covid, Lazio opposes and blocks the borders: stop the passengers

The expected defeat of Rome and Lazio, before the progress of Covid-19, is gone. Together with Sardinia, it has the lowest RT in Italy, at 1.04. And as the only region in the yellow belt of central Italy, along with Molise, it will now find itself forced to defend its borders. With a possible scenario: if, as has happened in recent days, patients with Covid from Campania come to seek help from the emergency room in Lazio because the hospitals in their city are exhausted, they will obviously not be turned down. However, the report to the court can be activated, because it means that the citizen violated the red zone. Not only that: checks will be organized both on the streets and at the stations. Patients do not come only from Campania. Already in the last three weeks Pierre Luigi Bartoletti, led by Oscar of Lazio (special teams against covidium in the area) registered an anomalous situation: “We found about a hundred Calabrian patients. “Many have moved in with relatives living in Rome.” Episodes that add access to hospitals in Lower Lazio, especially in Latina, to patients from Naples and Caserta. There are those who arrived in a car with an oxygen cylinder, as Messenger said yesterday.

Orange field campaign? It is already the flight of patients from Covid to Lazio

Lazio is surrounded. To the south is Campania, to the north Tuscany, both in the red lane, with restrictions very similar to the restrictions. To the east are Abruzzo and Umbria, already in the orange lane, only the narrow border with Molise allows Lazio to communicate with another area of the yellow lane, where the restrictions are less severe. What’s more: not only is Rome the only major Italian city to avoid rigorous closures, but it is also the only capital of Europe to survive, with the exception of virtuous Germany. Madrid, Paris, London, Vienna are in trouble. The situation is even more serious in Prague and Brussels, where the incidence of infections is twice as high as in Rome. It must be said that Lazio was helped by the presence in the capital of a center for excellence for infectious diseases such as Spalanzani, which marked the route primarily in terms of tracking and using fast tampons in a massive way, coincidentally with the dual choice of that of Veneto, which today is the other great region in the yellow bar. Yesterday the regional health advisor, Alessio D’Amato, he specifies: it is not true that Lazio counts fast tests in the total number of swabs (only positives with a very high value are entered for which no confirmation of the molecule is required). So, the percentage of 11.5 percent (the lowest in Italy) on the positivity of the number of tested cases is encouraging. But it was the swing guns that enabled screening, for example, in ports and airports, reducing the impact (which in any case was large) on holiday returns (without swabs, for example, 3,500 returned from Sardinia, which would be asymptomatic ignited the fire of contagion). Today, the indicators that save Lazio are those of RT (the transmission index dropped to 1.04), an acceptable incidence of population (among the brightest regions it is in seventh place, with 224.29 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last week, half from Lombardy and Piedmont), fair monitoring capacity, likelihood of bed saturation even in intensive care below 50 per cent. Is everything okay? No, not at all, but it is less bad than in other regions.

Shortness of breath

There have been long queues at the plant and we are now experimenting with the booking formula, but the response times are still long; probably paid off for a long time refusing to open even to private individuals to perform molecular tests, focusing on public laboratories (only recently there was a course correction). Emergency rooms are in extreme difficulty because the activation of new beds (another 2,000 are planned) is slow, so “plugs” have been created, and patients with Covid have to wait four to five days for hospitalization. Furthermore, slow swab responses cause very anxious patients, with symptoms, to run to the emergency room to help, blocking them because they know the test will be performed there. To sum up: the rapid swabs and monitoring prevented the epidemic from getting out of control and that is why Lazio remains yellow for the time being, but in the hospitals the situation is complex, home care is still not effective enough. There is another problem: the arrival of other patients from neighboring regions. The Committee on Order and Security will meet on Tuesday in the prefecture of Rome. On the one hand, it is necessary to raise the level of controls, in order to prevent reckless behavior from jeopardizing the results achieved in preventing infection, always keeping in mind that every day, however, more than 2,600 new positive cases are recorded. On the other hand, monitoring of the access roads from other regions will be organized, as well as at the stations.
