The fingerprint lock feature, previously called authentication or screen lock, will be available in the next few months, according to WaBetaInfo, which always provides the earliest information on WhatsApp updates.
"After providing a screen lock feature for beta users of iOS (over 3 months ago), WhatsApp is finally ready to release it to all Android users," WaBetaInfo reported on Wednesday.
For those of you who can't wait to try this feature, you don't have to wait a few more months, as the WhatsApp 2.19.221 beta version of Android can be downloaded. Version 2.19.221 has the fingerprint lock feature available.
If you've updated to the latest beta and haven't found the feature yet, back up your chat history and reinstall Whatsapp. If you've taken that step but still can't, then you should wait for the next update to be available.
According to WaBetaInfo, if an updated version 2.19.3 is available, all Android users (Marshmallow or newer) will be able to enjoy the fingerprint lock feature.
So how do you activate the Fingerprint Lock feature?
You simply open the WhatsApp> Account> Privacy settings and you'll find a new option called fingerprint lock.
If you open the fingerprint lock, you can confirm that it is finally possible to activate the feature. If you choose to enable the fingerprint lock feature, you can still respond to notification messages and respond to WhatsApp calls, as authentication is only required when opening WhatsApp.
In the fingerprint lock feature, WhatsApp also provides a timed option on how many minutes the application will lock when not in use. However, unfortunately, the feature is only available "immediately", then "after 1 minute" and "after 30 minutes". Three options are too fast and too long.
The latest feature enhancements also provide an option called "Show Notification Content" so that you can decide whether you want to display messages and senders in the on-screen notification or not when the fingerprint lock feature is activated.
