Scientist names Sachin Tendulkar's newly discovered spider species – it's viral

Probably one of the greatest cricketers of all time, Sachin Tendulkar's name is rarely out of the spotlight. It has been six years since the slimming down played its last Test match in front of Wanked Stadium, which was packed with shelves, but Tendulkar remains one of the biggest names in Indian cricket.

In what should be one of the most unique ways to pay tribute to Mr. Blaster, a research scientist pursuing a PhD in spider-taxonomy, he decided to rename one of the two newly discovered species after Tendulkar.

"I named (a spider) Marengo Sahintendulker because Sachin seems to be my favorite cricket," Dr Pryapati was quoted as saying by The Times of India. "Another name is inspired by St. Curiacosa Elias Javara, who was a crusader in creating awareness about education in Kerala."

Prajapati is a junior researcher with the Gujarat Foundation for Environmental Education and Research (GEER). He said the two new species are part of the Indomarengo and Marengo genus of Asian poplar spiders.
