Microsoft is pulling the plug on its Cortana mobile app for both Android and iOS devices.

Microsoft is downloading its digital assistant, Cortana, from Android and iOS. The mobile app will no longer be available in regions such as the UK, China, India, Canada and China, among others. The Cortana mobile app will be removed and will not be available until January 31, 2020.

This does not mean that users will not be able to access the Windows Digital Assistant. In addition, the service will offer Cortana as part of Microsoft 365 applications. According to Cortana's support site, the Microsoft launcher will also eventually be updated by removing Cortana.

"To make your personal digital assistant as useful as possible, we integrate Cortana into your Microsoft 365 productivity applications. As part of this evolution, on January 31, 2020, we are ending support for Cortana on Android and iOS on your market. At that point, the Cortana content you created – such as reminders and lists – will no longer work in the Cortana or Microsoft Launcher mobile app, but can still be accessed via Cortana on Windows. Also, Cortana's reminders, lists and tasks are automatically synced to the Microsoft To Do app, which you can download to your phone for free, "says Microsoft on the support page.

Cortana was introduced as a standalone app for iOS and Android back in 2015. Since then, this app has seen a number of updates, but has failed to be as popular as Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.
