Chris Plummer's Popularity of Call of Duty Mobile in India, PUBG Mobile Comparison – Technology

Call of Duty Activation: Mobile has launched an explosive start. The hybrid multiplayer battle game Royal exceeded 35 million downloads in less than a week of launch. According to Sensor Tower, Call of Duty: Mobile collected about 148 million downloads in the first month, surpassing PUBG Mobile and Fortnite. The research firm also said India was one of the biggest contributors to Mobile's "Call of Duty: Growth".

We spoke with Chris Plummer, VP Mobile at Activision, on Call of Duty: The Popularity of Mobile in India. Plummer also shed light on how the game is different from the popular PUBG Mobile Rial Combat Game. Here are edited excerpts.

Did you expect such a huge response in the first week of launch?

We are very humbled by the response in the first week. There were signs that the game of Call of Duty: The Mobile Quality Level could really take off, but you never know until players get involved with the game and tell their friends. Call of Duty always has such a large community and we're excited to see so many new players enjoying the franchise. We have a lot of work to do, and we hope players continue to come back for new experiences and upgrades in the coming weeks.

Did you expect India to contribute such a large chunk of downloads? What are your key remarks about the Indian gaming community?

We saw a lot of interest from gamers in India when we tested the game early. This helped us make sure that the quality of the network would be strong in India and we wanted to make sure that the players in India stay engaged and enthusiastic, but we didn't know how popular it would be once we started globally. We are thrilled to see a large and thriving Call of Duty Mobile player community in India!

What makes COD Mobile different from other FPS games? Thanks to PUBG, royalties are being dropped. Even COD Mobile has it. What makes COD Mobile's fight rally different from its competition?

Our Battle Royale mode is our unique Call of Duty universe genre, specially built and tailored for Call of Duty: Mobile. We emphasize vehicles, including ATVs, helicopters, terrain and tactical rafts, allowing you to travel faster with your squad and encourage ground, sea and air battles. Also, another thing that sets us apart is players being able to choose an Operator class before entering the battle, where each Operator has two active equipment equipments unique to that class. For example, you can equip a cutting hook while his team-mate prepares recovery equipment.

E-sport is becoming a big phenomenon. Will we see COD tourist tournaments soon?

E-sports are always a topic of conversation internally, but we have nothing to disclose at this time.

How much effort has it taken to make COD Mobile optimized for low end phones and slower networks in markets like India?

A lot of effort has been spent optimizing Call of Duty: Mobile for the widest range of devices while still achieving the Signature of Quality Graphics of Duty Graphics that fans are expecting. We will continue to optimize the game to reach the widest range of players and devices that can be reasonably dealt with while ensuring that the quality of the experience remains high. The game currently plays quite well on mid-range devices, while featuring more advanced hardware.

Controller support has long been sought by fans. When will it come to play?

We listened to the players and heard them loud and clear in support of the controller. We are currently testing the controller support and are evaluating the option to bring it into play sometime in the future. Our goal is to ensure that controller support is properly implemented and balanced. Stay tuned for more information as this develops further.

What's Next for COD Mobile? What new features or updates will we see?

We have big plans for new features, options, in-game events and more. We've already rotated and entered some new maps and modes since the global launch, and will try to keep the game fresh. For example, the Gun Game was recently added to the rotation, followed by the arena mode only rockets. So check in the game regularly.

Can you tell us about COD Mobile customers? Demographics, active users, time spent or something.

Our toy base is widespread throughout the planet and they are deeply involved in the game. The players have been running a quarter of a billion hours in the first 2 weeks since we started globally and they are still playing intensively. It is really exciting for us all to experience this kind of enthusiasm with players.
