Apollo 12: Point Mission

Apollo 12 was launched by Cape Kennedy on November 14, 1969, in a cloudy sky with rain. The launch controllers lost contact with telemetry in 36 seconds, and again in 52 seconds, when the Saturn V launch vehicle struck a lightning bolt.

In addition to extending Apollo's lunar research assignments, Charles Conrad, Allen Bean and Richard Gordon deployed the Apollo Lunar Surface Package, a set of probes left on the moon to collect data.
