Over 40 high-ranking directors (and military generals in most cases) and security personnel responsible for METEC (Metals and Engineering Corporation), the largest military corporation composed of military industry, are now arrested in the capital of Addis Ababa, reports Ethiopian Reporter.

The reporter, who quoted anonymous sources, added that the older METEC board members and the interview were arrested because they met in a corporation building which is quoted as Amoraw, near the Imperial Hotel in Gerji.

The reason for the arrest of officials is not known, and the list of arrested officials has not yet been disclosed.

It is known, however, that they were detained at the police station in Addis Ababa, where the former president of Somalia was arrested.

The report by Wazema Radio this week says that the government is conducting a very secret investigation into corruption scandals, because the corporation is undergoing a reorganization.

The news of their arrest took place a few days after Abiy Ahmed unveiled in Gonder during a meeting with members of the community that his administration had made a sensible reform in the army in terms of the leadership composition in the command structure that was dominated by ethnic Tigers. In a report published yesterday, Ethiopian Satellite Television (ESAT) cited what was called "Sources close to the Prime Minister" to report that over 160 military generals were liquidated.

METEC has investments in various sectors of the economy, but is more active in the construction and mechanical engineering sectors. However, the corporation is often accused of poor project completion and great corruption.

Brigadier General Kinfe Dagnaw (pictured above) who headed the corporation as director until he resigned in April 2018 after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was elected Prime Minister in the ruling party, was recently in the media defending METEC, a corporation that Ethiopians consider corrupt and incompetent.
