Vaccination against seasonal influenza significantly reduces the risk of death. However, only 20% of them are protected

Czech Republic – Over 2 million people over 65 live in the Czech Republic.1 Everyone has the right to a free flu shot. Seniors belong to the so-called Risky population groups, because they are exposed to serious diseases and other complications.2 People over the age of 65 are even 60 times more likely to die and generally fall into the category most affected by influenza.3a Vaccination is the only prevention that effectively protects flu, alleviates the course of the disease and can prevent deaths. However, only about 20% of older people have over 65 years in the Czech Republic.4a

Total 75-90% of people
over 65 years when it comes to the consequences of influenza.3b, 5a"The cause of death is not only the illness itself, but also other health problems
complications that the flu may cause
physiological changes – in addition to metabolism, muscle mass or function, and
Tissue morphology also changes the immune system, which in turn leads to reduction
resistance to various infections, including influenza, "
says MD. Zdeněk Jágrvá, director
Hygienic Station of the Capital City of Prague.

Danger of disease
influenza grows in older people due to chronic diseases that
older people are often found. Experts say that one or more diseases at the same time
suffers from over 90% of people over 70 years of age. Statistics show that up to 3/4 people
in the 65+ age group, it encounters heart and vascular diseases, and half have increased
blood pressure, 37% ischemic heart disease.6 Another frequent
the problem is diabetes, which affects up to 20% of seniors. She
danger in older years is that it can manifest
unusual and non-specific symptoms.7 Age is a risk factor
also in connection with pneumonia (pneumonia), whose presence is influenced
the reduction of immune defense increases especially after 65 years.5b

Influenza in patients with chronic ischemic disease – a double gun

"Influenza flu in chronically ill patients is twofold. Personal chronic
diseases increase the risk of influenza, influenza also significantly contributes to
deterioration of current health. Nevertheless, it is significantly undervalued, not only
among seniors, but generally in the Czech Republic "
warns MD. Zdeněk Jágrvá. Czech Republic
it is only at the level of 5-6%3cbetween seniors is around 20%4b.
Both the World Health Organization and European institutions recommend vaccination
seniors at least 75%.3d Seniors are in Czech
The Republic as a group of risk is entitled to vaccination against influenza. Fully
this year's four-Tc vaccine Vaxigrip Tetra is also included in this scope
since the last season on the Czech market. Compared to the previous three walls
Vaccines act on four circulating influenza strains (two strains A and
two strains B) and provides even wider protection.

HEALTH AND MEDICINE

The benefits of vaccination are confirmed by numerous scientific studies. It follows that in addition to direct action, vaccination also plays a secondary role in the prevention of complications, hospitalization and deaths. As for seniors, older people living outside care centers contribute to reducing hospitalization by 30-70% due to pneumonia and influenza. For seniors living in nursing homes, vaccinations reach 50-60% of effectiveness in the prevention of hospitalization or pneumonia and up to 80% of effectiveness in preventing death.8 In practice, this means that the vaccinated senior may become ill, but the course of the disease is mild and the unvaccinated is much less susceptible to life.
