Scientists have come to the conclusion that if we succumb to temptation, if we have a good cause, it helps us to interpret this behavior not as a failure that has destroyed our efforts to achieve the goal, but as evidence of our own self-control.

And the idea is totally unfounded, we must always avoid temptations if we want to achieve a long-term goal, such as weight reduction, as well as a study published in the Journal of Consumer Psychology. In this study, Portuguese and Dutch scientists, using three experiments involving diet, have shown that if deviant behavior is planned in advance, it can help maintain self-control and continuation of the program. In other words, these "offenses under control" improve the mood and strengthen the ability to withstand other temptations.

What practical lessons can we learn from these studies?
