More than 40% of the gay population uses a condom alternately. This is part of the conclusions of the first research on the behavior of men who have sex with men. This study seeks to be the basis for the development of safe sexual practices for HIV prevention
On this topic, the leader of the Movement for Integration and Homosexual Liberation Movement, Rolando Jimenez, said they have worked for more than a year in building an area of HIV that is responsible for prevention and support for those who live with evil. "We realized that there is a great prevalence among young homosexuals who came to the office to seek support and guidance and that this is a growing problem and we had to have information on sexual practices of young people between 15 and 29 years and therefore this research was conducted in which more than 1,200 people were involved, "he said.
And, the results were dramatic: 40% with condom use intermittently and the age of sexual initiation of the gay male population appears earlier. "We realized there was a huge deficit at the place where children get information to have safe sexual practices. This reinforces the need for public policies for comprehensive sexuality education that begin at an early age," he added.
Jimenez argues that there is a low risk perception because treatment has made a chronic illness, so that fear was lost, allowing the virus to continue to spread. With these studies, they are trying to improve the strategy to influence safe sex practices.
Among other points, the need to generate a protocol that regulates the use of PrEP pills (pre-exposure prophylaxis) that the country will give in 2019 in Chile to prevent the virus was addressed. These can reduce the possibility of acquiring the virus during sexual practices by more than 90% if taken daily. Therefore, there must be a protocol that guides people on its real effects and encourages them to privilege safe sexual practices, because it's not the idea that the tablet causes relaxation.
