Unemployment rises in the Los Rios region and reaches 5.1%: it is still below the national average National



With the unemployment rate it reached 5.1%, Los Rios remains fourth in the regions with the lowest unemployment rates, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INE), an increase of half a percentage point in the same period of 2017 and 0.3 percentage points less than the immediately previous quarter move.

Regional Director (s) of the area, Rodrigo de la Rosa, explained that the sectors that saw the greatest reduction in employment were processing industry, trade and artistic activities, with 15.5%; 9% and 33.9%, respectively.

Of course, he noted that there was an increase in occupation in the primary sectors and some services.

Regarding gender-related unemployment rates, there were no regional variations for men, however, he said that Unemployment in women has increased, which is 6.5%. Despite this, he added that Los Rios remains below the national average.

The INE Director explained that the number of employees at the regional level has reached just over 186 thousand people, while the unemployed turned 9,900 persons.

At the national level, the highest unemployment figures are held in the regions of O Higgins, Antofagasta, and Tarapaka; while the lowest are for the Aysen, Magellan and Los Lagos regions.
