Improving the biocompatibility of titanium implants



Titanium is one of the most commonly used materials for medical implants, but it has poor bioactivity, making it imperative to increase, so these implants better bind to bone tissue.

Researchers at Anhui University of Science and Technology have used mechanical treatment of wear to modify the surface of titanium. Results from in vitro experiments have shown that the modified surface layer can significantly increase the response of osteoblasts and significantly improve the biocompatibility of titanium.

The research, whose results were published by the Material Science and Engineering Journal, provides a promising form of surface modification for future titanium medical implants.
