It is not yet clear which component of the new species prevents the growth of the pathogens, but the team is already investigating this.

Professor Paul Dyson of the University of Medicine at the University of Swansea said: "This new type of bacteria is effective against 4 of the 6 major pathogens that are resistant to antibiotics, including the MRSA."
