The production specification Porsche 911 Speedster debuts in New York

What is that? With a greeting and wink to the Porsche 356 Speedster, which debuted in 1948, Porsche introduced the production version of the 911 Speedster – a lightweight 502 horsepower roadmap and outstanding form – to an exclusive event in New York on April 16. And, wow, is the car once magnificent, an excellent tribute to the original Speedster that helped define the brand. Only 1,948 will be built.

Powered by a 4.0-liter flat six that will shout at 9,000 rpm and produce 346 lb.-ft. of the torque, the 911 Speedster is based on the 991 version of the Serious GT3 Coupe, getting the same engine and chassis, but several modifications to make it unique, such as the front and side windows with a low cross section and manual drive on the lightweight tip of the fabric . Two "streamliners" made of carbon fiber composite on the rear deck are back on the original car.

Why is it important? Porsche has a long and prominent history of building cars that care for drivers and enthusiasts. The 911 Speedster is based on this, offering only a six-speed six-speed manual transmission (saving 4 kilograms over seven manual gearboxes), the GT3 R racing cars and an intense focus on light weight. The hood, the front fenders and the rear platform cover are made of carbon fiber.

The older and more powerful carbon ceramic brakes are standard, the roof has no power components, air conditioning and stereo options. All inside, the 911 Speedster weighs 1,465 kg – light enough to help reach 100 km / h in four seconds flat. The dynamic mounting of the GT3 engine also needs to enrich the driving experience, but expect the tip to be characteristically cautious for opening and closing.

When will it come? The 2019 911 Speedster should be available for the target starting next month at a price of $ 312,500, with deliveries late in 2019.

Should You Buy It? If you are already the owner of the Porsche 911, Speedster can make an exceptional compliment and will always remain unique. If you are a collector, the performance and the limited number of 911 Speedster will ensure that it always has value. But if you simply want high-performance and personalized Porsche, the 911 Cabriolet S is more advanced and can be designed in more than a hundred different ways for much less money and will be much more useful for the top. It just will not be one of 1,948 cars with those very cool streamliners.
