SASCOTON – Police say one man is dead after the shooting with officers in Saskatoon.
Saskatoon's police service says the MCPM responded to reports Saturday night that a man with a pistol was heading to Saskatoon and threatened to harm himself and the police.
They say Mounties had deployed a tire deflation device that partially disable the vehicle in the southwestern part of the city, and it was there that Saskatoon officials arrived at the scene.
They say that the man refused to respect the policemen and shot the gun, and the police returned.
The 27-year-old man, whose name has not been released, died in hospital and had no injuries.
Police say that during the incident, the man was in touch with a phone with several people, including Saskatoon's police negotiators.
Police say the province's justice ministry has been contacted and a request for independent oversight has been submitted.
