The US economy created more jobs than was expected in December, according to the latest government data.
Employers added 312,000 jobs, well ahead of the forecasts of 177,000, the Labor Department said.
The unemployment rate rose to 3.9%, but is still close to historic downturns. Average monthly wages increased at an annual rate of 3.2%, an improvement compared to the previous month of 3.0%.
