The best games since 2018: Forza Horizon 4

It's not exactly a homecoming year for the Xbox One exclusive. For starters, just were not so many of them, and Sea Thieves – probably the biggest edition of Xbox One of the year – was pretty unstoppable at the launch. However, it was not so bad for the Xbox One and its exclusive, but, as we gave it to 2018 Forza Horizon 4.

I find myself in a similar position to the one I was back in 2016: I'm not really a racing driver, but here I name a racing title as one of the best games of the year. I think it really speaks of the quality of the game when it can pull people who are not fans of the genre, and Forza Horizon 4 makes it wonderful.

Granted, there was no tone that changed in a jump from Forza Horizon 3 to 4. The setting has changed, and now the seasons are progressing while you play, which is obviously a pretty big new feature on your own. There are also some new ways to play, but Forza Horizon the formula is still there at the core: to participate in the Horizon Festival and all the different events you keep while gaining fame, build a car collection and explore the world around you.

I think Forza HorizonThe open world approach is one of the best parts of the series, and inside Forza Horizon 4, it is particularly great. This time we have landed in the UK, although it may not have the same ecological diversity Forza Horizon 3However, it is a wonderful place to explore.

The woods, fields and rivers of Britain are as beautiful as it is, but then we throw the exchange seasons into a mixture and Forza Horizon 4The world really begins to feel alive. Every season in Forza Horizon 4 feels unique, and that difference is obviously the most noticeable when entering the winter for the first time.

In winter, driving conditions are surprisingly getting worse (or more fun, depending on your prospects). The roads spill over with dots, making the zoom around the map a bit more exciting. The lakes are also lightweight, which means that you can drive through them and discover all kinds of neat things – or simply use them as a shortcut to your destination.

Although summer offers ideal driving conditions for most of the time, spring and autumn also make their part to throw you some curved balls. In the spring, rains come often and make the world a springtime spring with flowers that touch the green seas. There's a lot of mud, and even some small flooding in spots, but it's nothing good rally car can not handle. In autumn the rain removes a little, and, of course, we have beautiful colors, the fall tends to bring with it.

Forza Horizon 4 obviously is not the first game to implement the changing seasons, but the way the game feels special. In a way, the world is the main star of this game, with all its secrets of discovering and its thorough beauty. It's wonderful that while you can be an active participant in these seasons – buying new cars to suit the conditions of the road or upgrading existing cars for better equipped for the current time – do not have to. Your level of participation in the simulation section of Forza Horizon 4 is entirely up to you.

I think that's what it does Forza Horizon 4 such as a pretty attractive game. I guess the simulation factors are likely to hold Forza Motorsport in the long run, but there are places where their teeth can sink into Forza Horizon 4 also. For players who tend to gravitate more towards arcade runners like me, the progression is still possible without diving in the car's adjustment. Forza Horizon 4 is a game that's as deep as you want it to be, and if you just want to collect a collection of cars without thinking too much about the action under the hood, you can absolutely do it. You can even buy real estate this time around!

With that said, you can create quite a stock of cars if that's what you are following. The official number, which does not include cars on the DLC, is somewhere north of 450, although I would not be surprised if that number exceeded 500 so far. Regardless of the exact number, there are many cars to unlock and ride around the version of Playground Games in the UK.

As always, the cars that are offered range from curiosities they would never have seen on real world racing for super cars that cost millions of dollars to buy. New cars are delivered as candy Forza Horizon 4 – Sometimes you give them to meet the requirements of an event, but more often you win them by wheels, which you will earn each time you reach a level. You can also discover and retrieve old cars by searching for barns, which has become one of my favorite aspects of the game. Then there is the Forzathon Shop and the Auction House, where you can acquire new cars with a cold fine.

It does not matter how much you unlock cars, the point is that you will unlock them at a fast pace right from the beginning of the game. You never really want a new car inside Forza Horizon 4, and you will quickly reach the point where you have a preferred car (or two or three) for each different type of event.

When you look at how many events there are – road races, rallies, field exhibitions, trick challenges, speed traps, cabinets, etc. And so on – and to add to the map of the open world and the detailed system of cars, it becomes clear that Forza Horizon 4 is a mass game. It's one that you can spend dozens of hours playing without unlocking everything or ever getting bored, and I'm sure many Forza Horizon enthusiasts have already done just that.

You can drive from event to event as easily as you can not do anything special and cruise around the British Village with one of the numerous radio stations of the game that will provide a soundtrack for your adventure. I think that's what makes this game so appealing-you do not always need to have a clear plan for progression. Sometimes it is only enough to look at the map and see what you will find or appreciate the scenery.

Even if you are not a fan of racing or you do not like cars, I think Forza Horizon 4 worth checking. It is one of those rare games that can be touched by people, regardless of their level of interest in the genre as a whole. I do not think I could choose Lamborghini from the line and here I recommend Forza Horizon 4 as one of the best games of the year.

As for me, Forza Horizon 4 is a necessary game for the Xbox One, and since Microsoft now makes all of its first-class exclusives available on Windows, it's a necessary game for the PC. There is not one qualification for that, because I think this is a game for everyone – equal parts available and in depth. Playground Games has done something special with Forza Horizon series, and nowhere is so much more obvious than in Forza Horizon 4. Although Forza the series becomes a little crowded with extensions these days, Forza Horizon 4 is one that should not be overlooked.
