Canadian musician Sam Roberts and his band will ring in the new year in style as part of Downriver Countdown on Barrie, December 31.

The winner of the "Juno" prize comes from Montreal and has six albums, with the latest, We were born into a flaming deluxe edition This year.
But Roberts is not the only legend that comes to town for the New Year's Eve concert. Young and old children can also enjoy the classic songs from the children's entertainer and the winner of the Juno Fred Penner Award.
And after 30 submissions from local bands, Barrie employees engaged the alternative rock trio Cousin Jack.
The free New Year's event includes skating on the rink in the town hall, horse riding, street performers, food sellers, family activities and two fireworks exhibitions.
Family fun begins at 6 am December 31.
