A man has been arrested and New York police are searching for additional suspects after the theft of jewelry at a jewelry store at Markville Mall during a dinner on December 30, Sgt. Clint Whitney said.
No one was hurt during the robbery, which took place at a jewelry store at Luckfok around 6:25 am. at the mall in Hwy. 7 and McCowan Road, he said.
Several witnesses said they heard shooting, but the police failed to verify that information, Whitney said.
"There are reports of cracked blows, but this has not yet been confirmed by the police. We will talk to witnesses, watch videos and watch the scene for such a thing," he said.
"More people come here saying that. All I can say is that it's said, but when you get a glass smashed into jewelry store boxes and stuff that knows what a loud bang."
The suspects made their escape when officers arrived, Whitney said.
"The policemen arrived at the scene with a very short warrant and the suspects flew through the parking lot," he said.
"One arrest was made, and other suspects fled, and we do not know how many there are. All we can say is that there are more suspects." I have no description other than the fact that some were seen as carrying buildings at that time. "
Many passers-by videos of the incident are shared on social media.
Whitney did not know what, if anything, the thieves managed to get away with stealing from the store.
He said it was a brazen robbery, saying "thank God" no one was hurt.
"The mall was very busy, the pedestrians, the vehicles, the whole part. It was a very busy time in the mall," he said.
"I know there were reports that there were ambulances there, but I think it was as caution about reports of the sound of shots. We did not call them for any injuries."
Although the police did not block the mall, some shops have conducted their locks and shelters in their stores as an internal security protocol, Whitney said.
"Everything is fine now, it's all under control," he added.
