Massive fire pours out power in Pembroke, Ont.

A massive fire in the yard of the hole expelled the hydromechanical equipment that served Pembroke, Ontao, on Wednesday night, briefly lowered most of the city in the dark.

Power was returned to most of the community by 10:40 am. Wednesday, but several homes were still without service.

The fire started on Wednesday night at Heideman yard patio on the border road to the community.

Hydro crews had to move the flame to make repairs and restore the power of 2,770 homes.

The mayor of the community, Michael LeMay, said the city is incredibly dark, with a red mist that illuminates the horizon.

The fire is still burning at 11 o'clock. Wednesday. There was no word about the cause.

Pembroke is about 150km west of Ottawa.
