A child died after being hit by an air conditioner that fell from an apartment building in the east end of the city, according to Police in Toronto.
Officers responded in front of a Toronto apartment building in an apartment building on Lawrence East and Mosbank Drive, near Scarborough Golf Club Road, around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Investigators initially told Global News that the mother was returning home with her three young children after choosing two of them from school.
A two-year-old boy was in a stroller when the air conditioning unit fell from the eighth floor of the building and hit him, police said.
Paramedics transferred her to the Hospital for Sick Children in critical condition, but later died in hospital, officials said.
Officers told Global News they are conducting a forensic investigation and are seeking video surveillance or witnesses "to make sure what exactly happened", adding that initial information suggests the incident was a "tragic accident".
There is still no word on whether the charges could be covered, and the investigation remains ongoing.
