Canadian tennis player Bianca Anderscu shocked the world of sport by defeating legendary Venus Williams to reach his first semifinalist at the WTA.
Andrescu, of Mississago, Ont, won 6-7 (1), 6-1, 6-3 over Williams in ASB Classic in Auckland, New Zealand.
"I think something is possible, and I think tonight I made the impossible," she told the court after her victory over the former world number one player. "I do not even know what to say."
After being broken in the first match of the second set, Andrescu joined 11 games to take control of the match.
"I do not even know what to say!"
"My goal was to qualify and possibly have a few laps, but now I have won some top players, so who knows? I believed in myself to the end," said Andrescu, who is in 152th place in the world and has to pass qualifying to make the tournament. I was struggling and really rejoicing. "
The 18-year-old rides high just one day after his biggest career victory, a remarkable 6-4, 6-4 victory on Thursday over the world number three Karolina Vozniacki in the 250,000-dollar tournament in Auckland, considered a warm up for the Australian Open, starts in just over a week.
