CALGARY – Alberta Health Services says 53 students and high school graduates in the Calgary region may have been exposed to contagious tuberculosis.
TB is a bacterial disease that usually affects the lungs.
AHS says it has sent a letter of notification to 53 people to organize tuberculosis testing and treatment if needed.
She says the general public is not at risk, and the risk for people who have been exposed to tuberculosis is small.
AHS website says tuberculosis bacteria spread to others through the air when the person with the disease coughs, sneezes or talks.
