Now we have to prepare our cars for winter conditions. From the beginning of the month, traffic police checked the readiness of our winter cars. From November 15 to March 1, drivers must drive on winter tires or on tires with a grapple of at least 4 mm. Penalties for non-compliance with the minimum requirements are imposed from 15, and the fine for tires with a grain smaller than 4 mm is 50 leva. In addition to the appropriate tires, cars must be equipped with clean wipers, lights and glass cleaner. This is the last stage of the so-called Winter Action.

The reason for the seasonal winter transition is that the tread and the high rate of natural rubber in winter tires reduce the braking distance by up to 50%. The differences can be surprising: a standard vehicle, moving at 50 km / h on snow, will travel 48 meters to stop, and summer tires – scary by 24 meters more than if the same vehicle were equipped with winter tires.

Tire repair shops in the city are a complete madhouse, there are still queues of cars waiting for replacement. Myth # 1. It's not tires, it's experience

Mastering and driving experience are undoubtedly important. Even a genius artist can not paint a masterpiece with a brushed brush. Good winter tires allow an intelligent driver to stop, drive more reliably and accelerate if necessary. The coin, of course, has the reverse side – a fool can cause a mass of hits and the highest quality of winter tires.

Myth No. 2. A double gearbox does not need winter tires

Devilish dangerous illusion. Even assuming that a vehicle with four-wheel drive normally accelerates to snow, steering and braking will remain. The laws of physics do not depend on the type of transmission. The tire plays the most important role in effectively limiting winter speeds.

Myth # 3. Wide tires are more suitable for winter

Tests clearly prove that in the winter the car is best kept on the road with the size of the factory. Wide tires have a larger contact area, but snow and ice are helpless. The rally cars of the world are not accidentally trained in fun, tight tires for winter starts.

Myth No. 4. If the money is not enough, it is better to buy only two expensive tires

Another dangerous illusion. If winter tires are mounted on one of the bridges and the other in summer, the risk of losing control over the car increases many times. When the budget is limited, it is better to buy a set of 4 tires from a cheaper model than to experiment with health and life.

Myth No. 5. Good winter tires can be produced throughout the year

Summer and winter tires (especially Scandinavian ones, intended for use on really cold days) differ not only in the construction of the gripper, but also in the composition of the rubber mixture. Experts agree that at a temperature of 5-7 degrees below zero, the summer tire has lost most of its properties. The same applies to winter, which significantly changes its features above 7-10 degrees.
