Multiple ice hockey champion Michal Shafarik died in a terrible accident in which his car went off the road and hit a tree. The 43-year-old former athlete got out of his car in the accident.
The tragic incident happened on Thursday near the birthplace of Shafarik – the Slovak town of Vsetin. Together with the local team, he won four national championships in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries.

On the road between Vsetin and the neighboring suburb of Hori Jasenka (about 2 km away), the hockey car left the road for unknown reasons and started turning through the forest, followed by a collision.
Arriving at the scene of the accident, firefighters found the body of Michal Shafarik a few meters from the car. Attempts to save his life began immediately. However, the former hockey player’s wounds were too severe and he died a few minutes later.
