SNCB adjusts its rates
The average price of SNCB standards and weekend tickets (first and second class) will be reduced by 1.89% as of February 1. The home workload and school subscription rate rate will increase by 1.18%, compared to the average adjustment of 0.29% for all other products. For the TIC, prices will not increase in 2019, while those of Stib will remain stable for the sixth year in a row.
At the end of December, SNCB published an average annual adjustment of 0.69% for all its tariffs, which is less than half of the health index (1.64%).
The TEN network tickets in Wallonia will not experience any increase in prices. With this decision, the Walloon Government wants to defend the attractiveness of public transport as a mobility solution. In Brussels, ticket prices and Stib subscriptions will not increase this year. The last increase dates back to 2013, when the monthly subscription increased from 47.5 to 49 euros. The annual subscription costs 499 euros.
Drugs for smoking cessation are better compensated
As of February 1, 2019, smokers will pay significantly less to test the stop smoking schedule and will be reimbursed up to three attempts to withdraw every five years.
Before reaching a complete smoking-stop treatment, smokers must buy a test starter for two weeks. This kit, sold at a price of 49.95 euros, was fully responsibility of the patient until then. From 1 February, the personal contribution will be EUR 9.80 for beneficiaries of the preferential scheme and EUR 14.80 for others.
In addition, smokers will be entitled to three full treatments reimbursed every five years instead of a total of two previous treatments.
The perception of the rights to roles will be performed at the end of the court procedure
As of February 1st, the lost party will have to pay the role of the rights at the end of the court proceedings. At the moment, the applicant pays these costs at the start of the proceedings, which may constitute an obstacle to access to justice. Unified tariffs for rights to roles have also been established. The right to the role will increase from 40 to 50 euros in peace justice, 100 to 165 euros in first instance, 210 to 400 euros per complaint and 375 to 650 euros in cassation. Temporary work is now possible in the federal public service
Federal administrations will be able to call temporary workers from this February 1, 2019. The Royal Decree on this topic was released in the Monitor in mid-January.
The use of temporary workers will now be possible within federal public services, public enterprises (band, proxima, etc.) and HR Rail, the legal employer of the railway staff.
Temporary employment is allowed only for the temporary replacement of the contracting or legal personnel, for additional temporary work and for performing exceptional work, for a maximum duration of 12 months.
Temporary agency work is not allowed in the event of a strike or lock.
Entry into force of the EU-Japan trade agreement
Approved in mid-December by the European Parliament, a major trade agreement between the EU and Japan will enter into force on February 1st.
The Free Trade Agreement between Japan and the EU (JEFA) will cover about 600 million consumers and almost one third of world GDP. It will eliminate the overwhelming majority of 1 billion euros that EU companies exporting to Japan each year, as well as a number of regulatory barriers. It will also open the Japanese market of 127 million consumers of the main agricultural and industrial exports of the Union.
On the European side, the agro-food sector emerged as the main winner, with an agreement on the elimination of tariffs for almost all food products, but sometimes after a transitional period.
