COPD is a chronic and slow progressive lung disease. The main cause of the disease is smoking. "As long as tobacco exists and harmful agents, it will continue to develop. (…) Currently, according to the WHO (World Health Organization, Ed), COPD is the third leading cause of death in the world. Unfortunately, Polynesia is not an exception, because people continue to smoke like the whole world, and, most importantly, they start very young " explains Dr. Pablo Ferrer, a pulmologist.
Alexis Frogier has been smoking for a long time. It's 10 years after he stopped. And yet: "We are not 100%, I'm 75%, I have to go to see a respiratory, I'm not breathing yet … the results are there."
