Huta Thy-Marcinelle, a plant located in Charleroi, mistakenly paid a bonus of more than 30,000 euros to its 230 employees at the same time as their salary, reports RTBF and Sudinfo.
Several employees, who usually receive around 1,600 euros, received over 29,000 euros last Friday. This is an accounting error when paying the premium.
A letter was sent to these employees by means of these exceptional transfers. Huta, a branch of the Italian Riva group, asked them to return the surplus. In total, about EUR 7 million were allegedly paid to employees according to RTBF.
According to data from Sudinfo, if some people understood that it was a mistake and they did not touch the money they had overpaid, others spent some money going to the casino because they had debts and were confiscated automatically on their bank accounts.
